About Us

Background

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide, accounting for over 20 million deaths annually. While CVD is often perceived as a disease of older adults, its origins are firmly established early in life. Epidemiologic studies consistently demonstrate that risk factors such as unhealthy diets, sedentary lifestyles, obesity, hypertension, and tobacco use frequently begin in childhood and adolescence. Early exposure to these risk factors not only accelerates atherosclerosis but also tracks strongly into adulthood, increasing the lifetime risk of heart attack, stroke, and premature death. Given this trajectory, focusing on youth offers a unique window of opportunity to disrupt the progression of CVD. Adolescence and young adulthood are formative stages during which lifelong health behaviors are shaped. Moreover, cost-effectiveness analyses suggest that early interventions targeting youth yield greater long-term benefits than those initiated in middle or older age, underscoring prevention during youth as both a clinical and economic imperative.

Beyond being recipients of interventions, young people themselves are critical agents of change in cardiovascular health promotion. With over 2.5 billion people under the age of 35 globally, youth represent not only the largest demographic in history but also a highly connected, innovative, and mobilized cohort. They bring unique perspectives, harness digital tools with fluency, and have the credibility to influence peers, families, and communities. Empowering youth to take leadership roles in designing and implementing CVD prevention strategies creates a multiplier effect: young leaders can champion healthier lifestyles, advocate for policy change, and drive technological innovation that resonates with their generation and beyond. The World Youth Heart Federation (WYHF) was founded in 2020 to mobilize and empower people under the age of 35 from diverse fields to work collaboratively toward improving cardiovascular health worldwide.

Our Goal

  • The World Youth Heart Federation will mobilize and empower 300,000 young individuals worldwide to positively impact the cardiovascular health of 3 million people by 2030.

Our Objectives

Youth Leadership & Empowerment: Position young people under 35 as leaders in cardiovascular health by fostering skills, networks, and opportunities to influence prevention, care, and policy at local, national, and global levels.

Education & Awareness: Promote lifelong heart-healthy behaviors by engaging youth in schools, communities, and online spaces, empowering them to recognize risks early and act as peer educators.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship: Encourage youth-driven innovation by supporting novel ideas, startups, and technological solutions that expand access to affordable, effective cardiovascular prevention and care.

Research & Knowledge Generation: Mobilize young researchers to contribute high-quality scientific evidence on cardiovascular disease prevention, disparities, and health systems, ensuring youth perspectives shape global knowledge.

Advocacy & Policy Engagement: Amplify youth voices in global health diplomacy and national dialogues, advancing policies that strengthen prevention, equity, and sustainable health systems aligned with the SDGs.

Collaboration & Global Impact: Build inclusive, interdisciplinary, and international partnerships that connect youth with governments, non-profits, academia, and industry to scale solutions and achieve measurable reductions in cardiovascular disease burden.

Focus Areas

Awareness & Lifestyle Modification

Most cardiovascular diseases develop silently, long before symptoms appear. The World Youth Heart Federation will educate and engage youth on how lifestyle impacts long-term cardiovascular health. Through evidence-based campaigns, school and university programs, peer-led workshops, and digital outreach, we equip young people with the knowledge and motivation to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Access & Equity in Care

Awareness alone is not enough without access. The World Youth Heart Federation is committed to reduce barriers to cardiovascular care, especially in underserved communities. By partnering with healthcare providers, governments, and grassroots organizations, we will deliver practical, scalable solutions that bring essential diagnostics and timely treatment closer to those who need it most.

Innovation & Youth-Led Solutions

Preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases requires bold thinking. The World Youth Heart Federation empowers youth to design and drive innovation, leveraging technology, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. From startups and pilot projects to cross-sector initiatives, we will nurture new tools and care models that make cardiovascular prevention, diagnosis, and treatment smarter, more efficient, and sustainable.
